Checking In...

Hello, Friends.

The past year has been a tough one for so many around the world. Everyone has a story to tell about 2020 as they deal with countless factors beyond their control. Those with chronic pain have a extra layer of hardship as they navigate inconsistent access to medications, mixed success around virtual care, and the day-to-day challenges that come with managing their condition.

As a team of chronic pain patients, researchers, and advocates we are all too familiar with these challenges on a personal level, but also as a company working towards a frictionless experience between patient, clinician, and researcher.

We want to take this moment to reflect on the past year, provide some juicy updates, and genuinely say "thank you" to the GeoPain community. We hope you and yours are staying safe and healthy.

-- The GeoPain Team

What We've Been Up To

We have been hard at work this past year re-focusing our efforts on the GeoPain product line, validating it for use in the clinic, and supporting some amazing cutting-edge research related to chronic pain.

New Research

New Publication

Dr. Alexandre DaSilva (et al.), University of Michigan, recently published results showing GeoPain is more consistent, sensitive, and accurate for measuring pain when compared to the VAS (0-10 scale). Not only that, he discovered the VAS is also heavily affected by mood! (i.e. bad day = worse pain)

This breakthrough explains why many successful pain treatments are mood altering (e.g. Opioids) and how it's easier to get into trouble without proper tools to track and measure real progress.

New Studies

While we can't share details on some of the research we're helping support due to confidentiality reasons, we are actively working with researchers and clinical trials to further the understanding of chronic pain. Through intense scientific rigor and precision for NIH-funded and Pharma studies we're helping move things forward. Here are a few recent activities...

Migraine

Multiple studies looking at new compounds for Migraine patients, as well as direct opioid production of the brain during an attack.

Fibromyalgia

Exploring the hypersensitivity to pain events by those with Fibromyalgia across diverse populations.

GI Pain & Tai Chi

Exploring the effect of Tai Chi on relieving Gastrointestinal pain.

Sickle-Cell Disease

Remote tracking of pain across adolescent population with Sickle-Cell Disease.

GeoPain for Patients!

GeoPain 2.0

When we first released GeoPain into the wild (2019) our goal was to give patients a way to better communicate their pain so they can get the care they need. A year later nearly 11k users were reporting their pain across 40 conditions and 5 countries. This was all done through organic discovery and word-of-mouth from amazing users like you!

This community is our North Star
and in the coming weeks we will be releasing GeoPain 2.0 for patients. This is a big step up in many ways from what you may remember. You can still precisely paint your pain in 3D, but we took your feedback to heart and now you can do so much more...

Release Date: April 1st, 2021

New Features (2.0)

This release was a long time coming and represents a complete rebuild of GeoPain. Through feedback from patients like you and the various clinical trials we help support (Migraine, Fibromyalgia, GI, Sickle-Cell Disease, etc.) we pulled together a new experience that will continue to evolve.

Whether it's for your own understanding or to connect with virtual or in-person care teams, we think that GeoPain can be a powerful tool in your journey.

Cleaner UI and Experience

A fresh new design with a guided approach to filling out entries. Combined with QuickFill options, entering your pain doesn't need to be a pain.

Mood, Function, and Sleep

Capture more about your pain and the impact its having on your life (quality of sleep, activities, etc.) to quickly develop a plan.

Reports & Video Recording

Don't just say it, show your pain. Create videos or detailed visual reports and share it via email or social media with friends, family, clinicians, pets...

Machine Learning Feedback

Receive more information about your condition, possible treatments, and what may be working for others through our adaptive Machine Learning algorithms.

Robust Treatment Tracking

Rebuilt treatment system with better control over your treatments including reminders to help you stay on track.

Down the Road

This release is just the beginning. We have a long list of improvements we'll be making this year including:

  • Dark Mode
  • Editable Entries
  • Configurable Reports
  • In-App Messages/Progress
  • ConnectedCare App for Clinics
  • More Detailed Feedback
  • Pain Predictions with ML
  • Spell Correct and AutoComplete
  • Much, Much More...

Let Us Hear Your Thoughts
